When
I first brought up the idea of "visiting" all 50 states via a meal
from each one, everyone thought about our choices. We could do the states' recipes in
alphabetical order, we could each choose a state, or we could choose randomly.
We decided as a family to choose randomly.
So I put each state's initials on a tiny slip of paper and folded them
up very small, then put them in a zip top bag.
We
only see Bill's children 2 weekends a month and some extended time in the
summer and over Christmas. With 50 states' meals to prepare, we realized that
it will take us two years to visit every state, provided we make a meal every
other weekend!
First up: Bill selected North Dakota, which was to be served on 10-20-13, but we had to postpone it due to work engagements. We are pushing it back to 11-8-13 -- the next time we see the kids. They asked if we can do a second state that weekend, so I drew a slip and got Maine. We'll be serving that meal on 11-10-13. When the meal is prepared, I'll take pictures and post the recipes. Stay tuned!
Update: it's been a LONG time between State meals....after we did Maine's meal on 11-10-13, we had the following that took up many of our weekends, so we pushed back everything.
Bill was on call ... Matthew's birthday ... Ben's birthday ... Bill had skin cancer removal ... Christmas stuff put up ... Thanksgiving ... Tree decorating ...Cookie making and decorating ... Brandi and Bridget's birthday ...Bill was on call ... Christmas -- and Matthew went to FL for two weeks ... Bill was on call ... Kirstin came for the weekend ...Bill had another skin cancer removal ... along with soccer, archery, scouts, and various colds. We just didn't have the time!!
I had selected recipes that I thought best suited and represented each state. During our "down" time from making the recipes, I have been researching more information about each state, which is still in progress. I'll begin adding that information with subsequent states.
