Apple Spice Dump Cake
Ingredients
- 1 box spice cake mix
- 2 cans apple pie filling
- 1 can crushed pineapple
- 1 stick butter
- 1 cup shredded coconut
- nuts (optional)
- In a greased cast iron dutch oven or 9" x 13" baking pan, add the apple pie filling.
- Pour the can of crushed pineapple over the top. Do not stir!
- Add the coconut evenly then sprinkle the spice cake mix over the entire dish. Do not stir!
- Slice the butter into pats and place all over the entire mixture.
- If using a dutch oven, place the cover on then place in a bed of hot charcoal that has been preheating for at least 20 minutes. Place 12 coals on top of the lid and bake for at least 45 minutes. Carefully remove the lid with a lid lifter or heavy duty leather gloves, taking care not to let ashes fall into the pot. Serve immediately with ice cream or whipped cream.
- If using a conventional oven, this will be baked in a preheated 350 degree oven for 30-40 minutes. Check the cake with a toothpick and if the mix is still wet, continue to bake for a few more minutes. Serve immediately with ice cream or whipped cream.
